Building expensive cabinets has been primarily confined to crystal set circuits because stuffing a big robust 1625 tube inside one would hide the beauty of the tube and the fascination of tube radios in general. To do so with an exciting EM83 magic eye tube would be unconscionable! My latest effort to remedy the issue has resulted in this new styling with the tube completely outside the cabinet encased in it’s clear plexiglass cacoon that provides views of the tube from the front, either side and from the top. The left green beacon of the tube vacillates while tuning strong signals and the right does so with modulations of voice or music or any sort of noise. A very entertaining tube indeed!
This radio includes and amplifier and speaker for easy listening. The cabinet was stained with orange tinted alcohol, shaded and finished with a smooth satin nitro cellulose lacquer.
These radios make exquisitely unique gifts or additions to anyone’s collections.
